About.
HELPING CHILDREN MAKE BETTER LIFE CHOICES
At New Generation Coaching, our aim is to help children and young people to make better life choices, via a holistic and contextualised approach.
Young people and their families may be experiencing a range of challenges, such as mental health, addiction, learning disabilities, being victims of crime, unemployment and vulnerability to criminal exploitation and offending behaviour.
Contemporary factors have impacted upon pre-existing issues, meaning that issues such as economic challenge, incidents of domestic abuse and violence and exploitation are exacerbated.
Our person-centred approach acknowledges the multiple risks they face, acknowledging how these may be balanced with protective factors, extending a bespoke response to encourage young people to desist in destructive behaviours, such as knife crime and other violence/criminal activities.
We aim to counteract disadvantage, deprivation, discrimination and disproportionality, providing opportunities for young people and their families to develop resilience’s and strategies for more productive decision-making.
Experience.
USING LIVED EXPERIENCE TO HELP THE NEW GENERATION
The founder of New Generation Coaching, Ben Butler, has a vast amount of cultural capital, having come from a turbulent childhood, experiencing abuse and trauma.
Having a diverse background, including being incarcerated, engaging in drugs misuse, knife crime and other violence, Ben has since managed to ‘turn it all around’, serving in the Armed Forces and working in a residential care home, caring for young people who are looked after.
New Generation Coaching is the manifestation of Ben’s commitment to using his own lived experience to enable and empower disengaged young people to turn their lives around too, via coaching, motivational talks and mentoring. Drawing on his military experience, Ben also leads Boot Camps around Secondary Schools, in his hometown of Shropshire, an area that may be perceived as untouched by so-called urban challenges yet experiencing similar issues, including racism and disproportionality.
Ben’s goal is to inspire the New Generation, by demonstrating that there are positive role models and that support is available and that indeed, it is possible to make a change for the better.
Services.
INSPIRE THROUGH ENGAGEMENT.
Using diversionary positive activities, e.g. coaching, talks/workshops, mentoring and sports, NGC inspires disengaged young people who are involved in socially and personally destructive activities. The aim is to help them to desist in engaging in for instance, knife crime and other violence/criminal activities and counteract disadvantage, deprivation, discrimination and disproportionality.
01. ONE TO ONE MENTORING.
A proven method of engaging young people, New Generation’s approach to mentoring is to challenge the myth of so-called ‘hard to reach’ by using a person-centred approach, drawing on his own experiences to enable young people to explore viable options to change their current and potential life situations.
02. WORKSHOPS.
Taking a thematic approach, New Generation Coaching design bespoke workshops that enable a semi-structured exploration of a range of topics, such as ‘dealing with conflict’, ‘saying no’ and also challenges such as those related to knife carrying, county lines, exploitation and violence.
03. SCHOOL AND COLLEGE ASSEMBLIES.
Less interactive than the workshops, Ben delivers impactful talks to large groups of young people and staff, highlighting the perils and consequences of making poor choices and ill-informed decisions.
04. CONFERENCE TALKS.
New Generation Coaching are well positioned to contribute to the continuing professional development of staff and stakeholders, translating lived experience into valuable insight to contextualising the challenges faced by young people.
05. PERSONAL TRAINING.
Building upon military experience, New Generation Coaching provide both one-to-one personal training and military standard/themed Boot Camps. These are portable, including within secondary schools, as a means to build confidence and self-esteem.
06. VIRTUAL PROGRAMME.
New Generation Coaching have developed flexible ways of working in a virtual environment, incorporating most of the aspects of the usual programme (as outlined in the service prospectus).
This will be utilised to proactively integrate online engagement with young people and to enhance the service offering.
